Salmon Fillets or steaks seasoned with a barbecue spice blend are pan seared and baked. This simple dish is so simple and tasty. Furthermore, this dish is ready to eat in less than ten minutes, start to finish.
With this salmon recipe, the sweet and savory flavors of barbecue can be enjoyed year round. There is no need to wait for favorable grilling weather, as this recipe for Pan Seared Barbecue Salmon is seared in a non-stick skillet and then roasted in the oven for a few minutes. Additionally, this salmon recipe is quick and easy to prepare.
The Seasoning
To make things even easier, the barbecue seasoning can be mixed up ahead of time and stored in a spice jar. Oftentimes, I double or triple the spice mixture and store on my spice shelf. This makes it even easier to pull together a quick meal. With a simple few shakes, the salmon is ready for the skillet and oven. Add a simple salad or vegetable and dinner is served. Or perhaps a salad that has grain and vegetables like a simple Brown Rice Pilaf. If you have an avocado on hand, consider a simple green salad with tomato and avocado. Avocado makes a killer combination when paired with salmon. For a simple salad, try a plate of alternating tomato and avocado slices.
Or perhaps you would prefer to consider this recipe for Spicy Black Bean Salad with Mangos. The bean dish brings forth a slightly spicy edge paired with the sweet mango, further complimenting the savory barbecue seasoning.
For the Salmon
While it is much easier to prepare fillets, salmon steaks may be substituted. Additionally, it is easier to work with smaller fillets rather than one large piece. Individual portions are easier to turn over than one big piece. For this reason, I cut my fillets into 5-6 ounce portions.
Update: 3/26/2020
When I first began making this recipe, I used only salmon fillets with the skin on. But recently, I began purchasing the farm-raised salmon available at warehouse stores like Costco. Often times this salmon is both boneless and skinless. Not only have I found this salmon to be a better buy, it is cleaned and fillet so nicely, as all the grey matter has been removed. At first I was reluctant to cook this salmon, fearing that it would break apart when flipping. However, I have found it quite easy to work with, and highly recommend it. In the picture below, boneless skinless farm-raised salmon was used.
